Label Accuracy of CBD Products: Understanding True Content

26% Of Tested Products Contained Less CBD Than Labeled.

Due to discrepancies in federal and state cannabis laws, there is little regulation and inadequate oversight concerning the labeling of CBD products. In fact, the US Food and Drug Administration recently found that 26% of tested products contained less CBD than labeled. In addition, some companies list their content of CBD misleadingly as the weight of hemp-extracted CBD oil instead of the actual weight of CBD.

What Is CBD?

In order to understand the difference, it is critical to understand the content of hemp-extracted oil. Full-spectrum hemp oil is a viscous liquid that is rich in phytocannabinoids, as well as other naturally occurring components. These include:

  • Vitamins (e.g., vitamins B1, B2, B3, B6 and E)
  • Amino Acids (e.g., glutamic acid and arginine)
  • Carbohydrates (e.g., rich in fiber) – Fatty Acids (e.g., omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids)
  • Trace Minerals (e.g., calcium, iron, magnesium, zinc)

Of the phytocannabinoids rich in hemp, the most abundant are CBD, CBG, CBN, and CBC. In addition, there are numerous other phytocannabinoids present at low levels. It is suggested that the entire profile makeup of the cannabinoids work together to affect various biological processes, described as the entourage effect.

How Much CBD Is In The Bottle?

Depending on the strain of the hemp plant, the CBD content of hemp-extracted oil may range from 5-60%. To determine the true CBD content, it is crucial to perform third-party and state-regulated testing on manufactured CBD products.

Knowing the content of CBD oil, is NOT the same as the weight of CBD in a product. A bottle of CBD tincture labeled 500 mg CBD oil can not be determined by the weight of CBD oil. When CBD oil analyzed contains 25% CBD, the tincture label should read 125 mg CBD. This is very important when choosing your optimal and correct dosage.

At MJ BioEssentials, the hemp-extracted CBD oils used in our products have been 3rd party tested by certified and state-regulated analytical laboratories, which generates a phytocannabinoid profile of the extract. This enables accurate and reproducible measurement of the TRUE CBD content of our complete line of CBD products.
